Swell Society is a female surf community for women, by women, all about supporting each other in and out of the water.
We’re Marney and Romy, two best friends and keen surfers who started this little passion project in early 2024. Back then, we were living in Sri Lanka, surfing every day, and realising how much we missed having a crew of like-minded women to share waves with, cheer each other on, and connect on a deeper level.
That’s how Swell Society was born – a fun, laid-back space where women of all ages, backgrounds, and board sizes can feel welcome, encouraged, and inspired. What started with casual surf meet-ups in Sri Lanka is now growing into something so much bigger, and we’re beyond excited for what’s next and to share what we have been working on!
Swell Society is about more than just surfing – it’s about creating a supportive and welcoming community, empowering women, and leaving a lasting positive impact.
Starting in 2025, we’ll be based in Indonesia, hosting weekly meet-ups, all-women surf retreats, and free events. But we’re not just another surf retreat in Bali – we’re focused on creating a space where women feel supported, encouraged, and empowered, while also providing unique opportunities for local women to learn, grow, and build careers.
We’ve spent so much time in Indonesia and feel deeply connected to its culture and people. Therefore, a huge part of our mission is giving back to the incredible local women who’ve welcomed us so warmly.

In July 2023, Romy swapped Austria’s snowy slopes for tropical island vibes, diving headfirst into the relaxed lifestyle of warm beaches and endless waves. As a passionate photographer, she sees the world through her lens, capturing special moments wherever she goes.
Her travels kicked off in early 2023, and her love for surfing quickly blossomed—especially when she lived in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. These places have become her ultimate happy spots.
Now, she’s a daily wave chaser, easily spotted gliding on her iconic blue 9'2" board—also known as “blue board girl.” When she’s not out surfing, you’ll likely find her flowing through a yoga session or looking for the best coffee in town.
